Windows 98 - TweakUI - I Don't Want Some of the Menu Characters Underlined

SUMMARY: Remove displayed menu shortcuts with TweakUI for Windows 98.

Some of the menus in Windows 98 applications have underlined characters. These are known as menu shortcuts. Holding down the ALT key and pressing the said character does the same thing as what would happen if you clicked the menu. But, since you are reading this tip, you don't use the keyboard and want to disable those underlines for a 'cleaner' appearance, right?

1. To remove the underlined characters, access the Tweak UI Control Panel applet (if you do not have it installed, read the tip elsewhere in MalekTips).
2. On the multi-tabbed dialog box that appears, click on the "General" tab.
3. Scroll through the "Effects" until you see a checkbox next to "Menu underlines."
4. Uncheck the box and press the "OK" button.
